Welcome to the NJC Memorial Fund Web Site.
NJC Memorial Fund is the only non-profit organization in Arizona dedicated solely to the support of the individual battling Lung Cancer and their family and loved ones. NJC holds several fund raising activities each year with all profits going directly to the support of people battling Lung Cancer. This support can take the form of funds to assist with travel, RX expenses not covered by insurance or other funds as needed to support both the physical and emotional health of the individual battling lung cancer and their family members. We also work as a liason helping people battling lung cancer to discover treatment options and other resources available to help them.
The NJC Memorial Fund was founded by Elva Gamino-Charette in 2006 in honor of her late husband Normand J. Charette who passed away from Lung Cancer in 2003. Our goal is to further the knowledge of both the smoking and non-smoking community in Arizona of the prevention and early diagnosis of Lung Cancer as well as the dissemination of all current information available to eradicate the existence of Lung Cancer. |

The NJC Memorial Fund was conceived because we saw that a critical need of people battling lung cancer was not being met by any agency in the valley. Before forming NJC we were a group of friends participating in fund raising activities for the American Lung Association (ALA). While we admired the mission of the ALA we wanted to be able to focus our efforts specifically on lung cancer. When the ALA approached us in the spring of 2005 to ask if we knew of any agency that could provide funding for airline tickets so the family of a 19 year old, in the valley for lung cancer treatments, could visit her on Memorial Day, we knew what we wanted our mission to be. Government funding for lung cancer is very low and what money there is goes to research. We wanted to be able to support people battling lung cancer on a personal level, both financially and with help identifying all resources available to them. Thus NJC Memorial Fund was formed.
